Is there tuition?
Montessori of Winter Garden Charter School is a tuition-free public school.
Where do I go to register my child?
Please stop by the Administration office, or visit the Admissions section of our website for more information regarding registration and to obtain a student registration form. Forms will also be emailed.
What time does school begin and end?
Students will begin their day at 8:10 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesday, school hours are 8:10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Children who are not picked up by 3:30 p.m., or 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays, will be taken to the Administrative office for pick-up.
Does the school provide bus service?
No, parents must provide their own transportation to and from school.
How is pick-up and drop-off handled?
We have a car line procedure that must be adhered to for safety and efficiency. Details will be presented prior to the school year. In general, parents must display a provided sign in their windshield, and arrive at the designated time for pick-up and drop-offs. Late arrivals must check-in at the office.
How old must my child be to enter Kindergarten?
Florida state law requires that children are 5 years old on or before September 1st of the current school year.
Will there be a lunch program?
Students bring their own healthy lunches from home, or families can order online from with our contracted catering service for delivery at school. PTO Pizza Fridays are the most delicious way to support the PTO’s goals. Mouth-watering handcrafted pizzas, healthy organic applesauce, and organic juice will make Friday your child’s favorite lunch day of the week. Orders must be in by 10AM Wednesday of each week. Is there a Before- and/or After-school program?
A before and after-school program is currently provided for MOWGCS families through various after school providers. Varied after-school enrichment activities, such as art, band, baton, chorus, chess club, drama and dance, take place each year on campus. To learn more about these programs click HERE.
Are you regulated by the state of FL or Orange County?
Montessori of Winter Garden Charter School is sponsored by Orange County Public Schools and follows all regulations by the state, county and city.
What is the student/teacher ratio?
Each classroom section has approximately 18 students with one licensed teacher and one support teacher.
What are the teacher credential requirements?
All public school teachers must have a Florida teaching license. Montessori certification or enrollment in a training program is also required.
What is the discipline policy?
The Montessori Method teaches natural and logical consequences as opposed to punishment. Conflict resolution and respect for the environment are important aspects of our approach. It is one of our ultimate goals that our students do the right thing, not because they will be punished if they don’t, but because they don’t want to adversely affect the people and world around them.
Is there a volunteer requirement?
Yes. All families are required to commit 20 hours of volunteer work each school year. You must fill out the forms at ADDitions School Volunteers – Orange County Public Schools. Please register prior to the start of the school year, so you can start volunteering right away!
How do I find out about volunteer opportunities?
Joining the PTO is the fastest and easiest way to plug in to earn your 20 hours. There are at-home, daytime, and on-your-own time opportunities.
What should be my first stop when arriving on campus?
The administrative office should be everyone’s first stop. Whether you are volunteering to read to the children, picking up your child for an appointment, or having a meeting with your child’s teacher, you must check-in with the administrative office. Sign in and receive a visitor’s badge. Administration and individual teachers also will have requests throughout the year.
Will there be any school fees?
A list of required supplies will be provided, or families will have an opportunity to take advantage of bulk pricing by purchasing a school supply box. Details will be provided over the summertime via email and on the website. The Specials in our school are funded exclusively by the Planned Giving program, which is funded entirely by parents. Planned Giving contributions are 100% deductible contribution to a 501(c)(3), and they make weekly specials like Spanish, Music, and Art a reality in our school.
What are Spirit Events, Worthwhile Wednesdays, and Fun Fridays?
Local vendors and our school work towards building a greater community. Spirit Events are a fun way for vendors to give a portion of sales to school families back to the school. Worthwhile Wednesdays are monthly opportunities where the children can wear jeans and spirit t-shirts, if they give back to their community through donations of $1 or more. Fun Fridays are also monthly events where children can wear clothing of a designated theme with a donation of $1 or more.
Where can I find a master school calendar of events?
Both this site and our PTO’s website include a Google calendar that are synced and regularly updated with key event and meeting dates. To add the calendar to your own Google calendar, you can simply click the “+” (plus) symbol in the bottom right of the calendar. Are students required to wear a uniform?
